Parts of Orchard Road closed to traffic:SINGAPORE – Parts of Singapore’s main shopping belt are closed off to motor traffic today from 1pm to 1am on Dec 26.The road closures are to facilitate the Celebrate Christmas in Singapore 2011 event.

Traffic police advises motorists to avoid the following roads as they will be closed, and to use alternative routes:
- Orchard Road (between Scotts Road and Bideford Road)
- The carriageway of Mount Elizabeth in the direction of Orchard Road (between Nutmeg Road and Orchard Road)About 20 buses which ply along the route along Orchard Road, between Scotts Road and Bideford Road, have also been diverted.

Commuters wanting to access shopping centres like Tangs and Paragon can alight at Paterson Road and make their way to the malls on foot.During this time, auxiliary police officers will be deployed at all affected road junctions to regulate traffic and assist motorists.Parking restriction along the peripheral roads will be strictly enforced and vehicles found parking indiscriminately or causing obstruction will be towed away.
