Christmas Mass singapore strong mass caroling for Christmas in Singapore:1,000 voices joined in song for Christmas The angelic voices of a 1,000-strong choir filled the air with sweet Christmas carols from the steps outside Marina Square on Saturday night.
The mass carolling session, one of the largest in Singapore, was organised by Celebrate Christmas in Singapore, a non-profit organisation supported by the National Council of Churches.The organiser estimated an audience turnout of more than 7,000 people, who were also invited to sing along.
The choir comprised about 800 members from various Christian churches here. The other carollers were from Christian churches overseas, including those in South Africa, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand. They were dressed in their national costumes and also performed carols in their native languages.
The seven floats will also make their way to heartlands around Singapore to spread the Christmas cheer.Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar GRC Indranee Rajah was present during the event’s opening launch on December 16.
Now into its eighth year, CCIS is also holding events for charity, such as encouraging the public to make cards for elder home St. Luke’s ElderCare.The non-profit event also saw 400 more volunteers helping out this year.
A volunteer said: “I volunteer because it’s quite a fun thing to do to meet people of all walks of life and from different countries.
“They all congregate at Orchard Road and you get to share Christmas with them. I think it’s more meaningful that way, other than like just sit around at home and watch TV.”
Celebrate Christmas in Singapore – Mass carolling
Celebrate Christmas in Singapore is looking for volunteers to form a 1500-strong choir for its inaugural Mass Carolling segment of the programme this year. The mass carolling will take place at Marina Square ¿ Outdoor Area facing Raffles Ave / Esplanade Theatres and is scheduled to be held on December 23 and 24. It is the first time that a CCIS activity will be held at the new location, in addition to Orchard Road.
