Swiss man Juerg Buergin Charged underage girl Prostitution Scandal:SINGAPORE – A scandal over an underage Singaporean prostitute widened Wednesday after a Swiss man and a prominent Singaporean business figure were accused of being among her clients.
Swiss national Juerg Buergin, 40, and Howard Shaw, 41, a member of a famous Asian cinema and property clan, were charged with having paid sex with a woman under the age of 18, an offence punishable by up to seven years in prison.In charge sheets seen by AFP, Juerg Buergin was accused of paying the girl twice for sex in luxury hotels while Shaw allegedly procured her services once.

Local media reports said the girl was 17 when the alleged offences took place between September 2010 and February 2011.Singapore media websites said Juerg Buergin is a former executive at Swiss banking giant UBS in Singapore but UBS had no comment on the report.
Banking sources said Juerg Buergin quit UBS earlier this year as executive director in the operations department, a backroom function.Among the four charged today is former Singapore Environment Council executive director Howard Shaw Chai Li, 41. The others are former Swiss banker Juerg Buergin, 40; former teacher Chua Ren Cheng, 31; and Edward Whistler Goh Ngian Meng, 49.
Goh and Juerg Buergin face two charges each. Prosecutors today also applied to the court for non-disclosure of any particulars that could lead to the identification of the girl allegedly involved.Juerg Buergin, 40, a former executive director of operations at UBS AG (UBSN) in Singapore, and Howard Shaw, 41, part of the family that built a movie production and real estate empire, were among four men charged at the downtown Subordinate Court yesterday for paid sex with an underage prostitute.
‘Amazing’ Scale
Shaw, who didn’t enter a plea, declined to comment, and Selva K. Naidu, a lawyer at Liberty Law Practice LLP representing Juerg Buergin, said his client also hasn’t entered a plea. Juerg Buergin is in remand, pending bail of S$15,000 ($11,984), the court was told. He couldn’t be reached for comment. The next hearing for Shaw and Juerg Buergin is June 18.
