Fong Fei Fei Taiwanese Pop Singer Died at 59
Taiwanese singer Fong Fei-Fei died on Jan 3 in Hong Kong after battling lung cancer, reports said. She was 60.Fong Fei Fei lawyer confirmed this at a press conference on Monday, China Times reported.Fong’s husband of 20 years, businessman Zhao Hongqi, 70, also died of lung cancer in 2009.

Taiwanese singer and TV host Fong Fei Fei, aged 60, had passed away in Hong Kong on 3 January after a losing battle to lung cancer, but only now has her lawyer come forth to reveal the news according to her wishes.According to TVBS, Fong Fei Fei was supposed to organize a concert tour on June last year. However, Fong Fei Fei did not make it for the show and eventually apologized to her fans through a voice recording by claiming that she was not allowed to sing due to a health problem on her vocal cord and needed at least one year for further treatment.
But the fact was that the cancer cells had been spreading to the singer’s vocal cord. As a result, she spent the last day of her life in a Hong Kong hospital and passed away on 3:19am, 3 January 2012.The late singer decided to ask her lawyer to make the announcement of her death only after Chinese New Year, hence the absence of media reports on her passing. Apparently Fong Fei Fei did not want to affect her fans’ mood during the festive season.In the statement made by her lawyer, Fong Fei Fei also thanked those who had worked with her in her long career and the fans who gave her much support through the years.Feng’s final resting place will be at a temple in the Tao Yuan County, Taiwan.

Fong Fei Fei started her career by acting and hosting Taiwanese television series back in 1971. With her first single released in the same year, Feng’s incomparable voice had brought her to fame in the Asian music industry. Nicknamed “The Hat Diva” because Fong Fei Feialways wore different kind of stylish hats while performing her songs on the stage, her classic songs include “I’m A Cloud”, “When I Hear Your Applause”, “Chasing Dreams” and more. Fong Fei Fei lost her husband in 2009 and is survived by her 23-year-old son.

I missed her concert at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas in 2007, but As always, she delivered a professionally good performance, my friends who went to the concert said it was a concert of a lifetime, which explains how she has managed to keep up a good following of die-hard fans even after more than 40 years!
Fong Fei Fei interest in show business started after she won a championship in a singing competition way back in 1968. From the time she released her debut album entitled ‘Zhu Ni Ping Fu’ (Wishing You Luck) till ‘Xiang Yao Tan Tong Diao Jing Xuan Ji’ (Collection) in 1997, Fong Fei Fei has already released 81 albums, with many of them garnering her numerous awards.
