Hong Kong TVB artistes in Singapore for awards ceremony

Stars like Kevin Cheng, Kenneth Ma, Myolie Wu & Linda Chung will be in Singapore for the Starhub TVB Awards 2012

Mark your calendars for August 18, because a bevy of Hong Kong TVB stars will be making an appearance in Singapore for this year’s Starhub TVB Awards.

This year is the third year that Starhub will be hosting the TVB awards in Singapore, and it’s also VV Drama’s (Starhub TV Channel 855) 20th anniversary, which could mean a bigger and more exciting event with more celebrity appearances than the previous two years.

Celebrities that will show up for the awards show include names like Kevin Cheng, Moses Chan, Kenneth Ma, Wayne Lai, Myolie Wu, Linda Chung, Kate Tsui, Tavia Yeung and more.

Seeing these celebrities in the flesh is exciting enough, but guests at the awards ceremony will get to watch legendary trio Grasshopper bust out their famed moves and well-loved tunes, as well as catch local singing talents Cai Ai Jia and the seven remaining finalists from Sunsilk Academy Fantasia perform live.

A total of 19 awards will be given out at the awards ceremony, of which nine are audience-favourites categories, with awards given out to the celebrities who have garnered the highest votes.

Most of the tickets for this Saturday’s awards gala have been sold out, but Category B and C tickets at $98 and $68 respectively are still available.

Alternatively, if all you want is a glimpse of the celebrities, head to the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Center at 5.30pm, when they are slated to arrive on the red carpet.

We will be tweeting live from the awards ceremony; follow us on Twitter for the latest updates. For more information on the awards ceremony and ticketing details, log on to www.starhub.com/tvbawards2012

Singapore viewers have given an overwhelming response to the 2012 awards, with public votes increasing three-fold, and near the 200,000-mark. Mr Chan Kin Hung, Head of Marketing and Products of StarHub said, “We are very glad to have the support of our viewers for TVB dramas through StarHub’s platform. Over the years, we have expanded from two to eleven channels currently, including On Demand and High Definition content, spanning across TV, and mobile. We will continue to present the best of TVB content within shorter windows, on multi-platforms, delivered in optimal quality for our viewers.”

There are 19 award categories this year, out of which nine are opened for public voting.  These include My Favourite TVB Male and Female Characters, My Favourite TVB Drama, My Favourite Onscreen Couple and the highly-coveted My Favourite Actor and Actress awards. Competition for the top accolades is so intense that for the first time, A-listers such as Moses Chan, Myolie Wu and Ruco Chan visited Singapore over the past two months to garner votes for themselves through media interviews and meet-and-greet sessions with fans.

Similar to last year, the 2012 awards ceremony will be hosted by Astrid Chan and King Kong. Top-notch TVB artistes expected to show up for this glamorous event are Chen Fala, Moses Chan, Ruco Chan, Sunny Chan, Kevin Cheng,  Linda Chong, Hu Feng, Wayne Lai, Selena Li, Kenneth Ma, Kate Tsui, Kenny Wong, Myolie Wu and Tavia Yeung. Legendary Cantopop band Grasshopper and finalist of The Voice competition, Auston Lam will be dazzling the audience with their performances as well. Local talent Cai Ai Jia and the top seven from StarHub’s very own reality singing competition, Sunsilk Academy Fantasia will also be showcasing their singing abilities at the awards show.

Beyond the glitz and glamour, three popular artistes, Hu Feng, Wayne Lai and Sunny Chan will be doing their bit for the less fortunate. They will be specially flying down to Singapore two days earlier to visit the Society for the Physically Disabled. The artistes will be spending an afternoon with the disabled, singing karaoke songs and interacting with them. StarHub’s Mr Chan added, “It’s a fantastic opportunity to have the artistes be part of a meaningful cause. We hope to add some joy and laughter to the physically disabled by bringing the TVB artistes to them in an intimate setting.”

Some of the exciting dramas that StarHub customers can look forward include Gloves Come Off which features Kevin Cheng and Raymond Wong as Muay Thai fighters, The Hippocractic Crush, a highly-rated drama in 2012 that follows the lives of young housemen, residents, and their mentors in a hospital setting, the highly-anticipated Ghetto Justice 2, sequel to the hit drama Ghetto Justice, Master Of Play starring Adam Zheng and Moses Chan, as well as Three Kingdoms RPG  where Raymond Lam and Kenneth Ma engage in a battle of wits against the era of the Three Kingdoms.
