Secondary One Option Exercise:The S1 Option Exercise will be conducted for all PSLE candidates immediately after the release of the PSLE results in late November. Pupils are to indicate their six secondary school choices during the exercise.
Considerations When Making Decision

In choosing secondary schools, the following factors, among others, may be taken into account:

* Previous year’s posting aggregate ranges of the schools
* Academic performance of the child
* Distance
* Affiliated schools
* Programmes and schemes offered
* Special needs of the child

Previous Year’s Posting Aggregate Ranges of the Schools

The aggregate ranges of the previous cohort of PSLE pupils posted to S1 in each school will be provided in Part Two of the S1 Information Booklet to be distributed in October. For Normal courses, both the aggregate ranges for EM- pupils* and EM3 pupils are provided. These aggregate ranges should be treated only as a guide. The aggregate ranges for schools can vary from year to year, depending on pupils’ PSLE results and their choices.

Note: * EM- pupils refer to pupils who were in the previously commonly known band of EM1/2.)

With the introduction of Subject-Based Banding, starting with the 2008 Primary Five (P5) cohort, to replace the previous EM3 stream, the 2009 P6 pupils now offer a mix of Standard or Foundation subjects depending on their aptitude in each subject. Notwithstanding this, the separate EM-/EM3 aggregate ranges which reflect the posting outcomes of the 2008 S1 Posting Exercise will be provided in Part Two of the S1 Information Booklet as it would continue to be a useful reference for making school choices.

Pupils who offered Standard Science at the PSLE in 2009 may refer to the EM- posting aggregate ranges. Pupils who studied Foundation Science* in 2009 may refer to the EM3 posting aggregate ranges.
* Foundation Science will be made examinable from the 2010 PSLE onwards.

Please note that:

* The PSLE aggregate ranges for secondary schools are not pre-determined before posting.
* The lowest PSLE aggregate in each course for the school is the PSLE score of the last PSLE pupil who was posted to the school.
