A candid photo of a man in the middle of a 10k run with a seemingly carefree smile has gone viral after he was given the moniker, “Ridiculously Photogenic Guy.”

And as with any good meme, the photo has quickly spawned a number of altered versions of the original photograph, with users adding their own text, such as, “Goes For Run: Inadvertently Teaches World How To Spell “Ridiculously,” and “Photobombs Wedding Picture: Nobody Minds.” And maybe the best one yet, “Picture Gets Put Up As Employee Of The Month: For A Company That He Doesn’t Work For.”

The Post and Courier reports that the man in the photo is New York’s Zeddie Little, 25, who was taking part in the Cooper River Bridge 10k run, which was held on March 31, in Charleston, South Carolina.

'Ridiculously Photogenic Guy' image goes viral

Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) systems analyst Will King, who was just taking a seemingly random photograph of runners in the middle of the race, snapped the photo and uploaded it to his Flickr account.

“One of my friends commented on the picture and said something along the lines of ‘I dub this guy Mr. Ridiculously Photogenic,’” King said. “I thought it was a pretty cool comment, so I posted it on Reddit. For some reason it just took off from there.”

By Wednesday afternoon, the photo had received more than 1.25 million hits on Flickr alone, where King originally posted the image.

“Everybody was running and he was just smiling at the camera. He wasn’t struggling or anything,” Jessica Crouch, the friend who came up with the “Ridiculously Photogenic Guy” title, told the Post and Courier. “It’s unusual. His hair was perfect and he had the perfect smile. It just struck me as being really out of place.”

Though as handsome and composed as Little may be, let’s be honest, he’s got nothing on this guy, who has also been making the rounds on Reddit this week:

SINGAPORE – One is a teenage golfer in only her second professional season. The other is a 12-year veteran on the women’s LPGA golf circuit.Nineteen-year-old Jenny Shin of South Korea and 34-year-old American Angela Stanford battled through four rounds, three extra play-off holes and a 11/2- hour rain delay at the HSBC Women’s Champions tournament yesterday.

And it was a teary Stanford who prevailed at the riveting finale in Tanah Merah Country Club, making par on the third sudden-death play-off round on the 18th hole to clinch the winner’s trophy and US$210,000 (S$263,000) in prize money.”I still feel like I’m dreaming, I haven’t fully processed (the victory) yet,” said the Texan.

South Korea’s Jenny Shin Beaten by Angela Stanford in HSBC Champions

“It kind of hit me when I was doing the TV interview right after the last hole, thinking about how cool it is to be the first American to win this title. It’s pretty special.”There was more than one time during the day when I thought I was done. But my caddie told me to keep grinding out the pars, to stay in touch with the leaders, and I guess it worked this time.”Stanford had finished on 10- under-par 278 with Jenny Shin and two other golfers, South Korean world No.2 Choi Na Yeon and China’s Feng Shanshan.

Feng was eliminated on the first play-off hole, with Choi following suit in the second, leaving Stanford and Jenny Shin as the last two standing – just as it was after 71 holes before rain paused play on the duo’s final hole in regulation.Stanford, who earned $210,000 for the victory, trailed Jenny Shin by a shot after the 17th when play was delayed about 90 minutes because of lightning. When play resumed, Jenny Shin hit her tee shot out of bounds, leading to a double bogey. Stanford bogeyed No. 18 to fall into a four-way tie at 10-under 278.

“I felt for her (Jenny Shin ) because we’ve all been in that position,” said Stanford, who shot a 1-under 71 in the final round. “I didn’t think I’d be there at the end. I was all over the map today.”The 19-year-old Jenny Shin turned professional in 2010 and has competed in 18 LPGA tournaments. She said her inexperience may have led to jitters at the 18th.”The tee shot on the 18th hole really threw me off,” Jenny Shin said. “The playoff wasn’t that bad. I wasn’t as nervous as I was on the 18th.”

Top-ranked Yani Tseng finished fifth, one shot behind after 72 holes. Michelle Wie had another disappointing round with a 75 and trailed the leaders by 32 shots. Wie finished next to last, ahead of only Singapore amateur Sock Hwee Koh.Tseng began the third round at 1 under. But a 5-under 67 on Saturday and a 4-under 32 on the first nine holes Sunday put her in a brief tie for the lead with Jenny Shin . A double bogey on 10 and another bogey on 14 pushed her back down the leaderboard.

South Korea’s Hee Young Park won the LPGA Tour’s season-ending Titleholders for her first tour victory, closing with a 2-under 70 on Sunday to hold off Paula Creamer and San Gal by two strokes.Hee Young Park, tied for the third-round lead with Gal, finished at 9-under 279 at Grand Cypress and earned $500,000.”It was difficult on the greens with tough pin positions today,” Hee Young Park said. ”I felt the pressure. I tried hard. I always felt I could win, so today I know that dream came true.”Hee Young Park, 24, also has six victories on the Korean LPGA.

“It was difficult on the greens with tough pin positions today,”Hee Young Park said. “I felt the pressure. I tried hard. I always felt I could win, so today I know that dream came true.”The 24-year-old Hee Young Park also has six victories on the Korean LPGA.”This week, I think, maybe changed my future,” she said. After bogeying the fourth hole, Hee Young Park birdied three of the next four and parred the final 10 holes.

South Korea's Hee Young Park wins first LPGA title

“She had great composure all day long,” Gal said about Hee Young Park. “She’s always smiling. I’ve played with her many times and she’s such a great competitor to play with because she’s always happy and just plays her own game. I think she really, really deserves it.”

”This week, I think, maybe changed my future,” she said. After bogeying the fourth hole, Hee Young Park birdied three of the next four and parred the final 10 holes.”She had great composure all day long,” Gal said about Hee Young Park. ”She’s always smiling. I think she really, really deserves it.”

“I still cannot believe this,” Hee Young Park said. “On the back nine I was getting like nervous and then getting tight in my body. So my caddie said, ‘Just keep going, keep trying to (play) like (it’s the) first round. You’re on the tee first time each hole, and just keep doing the same thing.’ And then I said ‘OK.’ ”

After a pep talk from Kerr on the driving range — “She told me to cheer up and that I could do it, that I could win,” Hee Young Park said — she pocketed $500,000, by far the largest check of her career. She said a key moment in her round came after a bogey on the fourth hole. Telling herself that she was thinking too much about every shot up to that point, Hee Young Park from then on just trusted her instincts and her club selection.Hee Young Park had won a professional tournament before, the last of her three victories on the LPGA of Korea Tour coming in 2006.”My first win in the U.S., it feels totally different,” Hee Young Park said. “Still same kind of goose bumps, but this win, I think could change my life, my future.”

Hee Young Park, the overnight leader with Gal, had recorded only two top-10s in 20 events heading into the Titleholders. But she took the outright lead in the final round for the first time with a birdie on the par-3 eighth hole, her third birdie in four holes. With the two paired in the final group, Gal pulled within one shot with back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th holes, but a bogey at the 15th dropped her two back. Hee Young Park, with a steady hand and a clutch putter, closed out her victory with 10 consecutive pars.”She had great composure all day long,” Gal said of Hee Young Park. “She’s always smiling. I’ve played with her many times, and she’s such a great competitor to play with because she’s always happy and just plays her own game.

“Hee Young Park didn’t make any bogeys. Her short game was great, and she made some good birdies early on, and I think that kind of gave her the momentum for the entire round.”Added Creamer about Hee Young Park: “That’s awesome playing on this course, and playing against all the big names out there. Hee Young Park’s a great player, and she deserved it.”

Lim Bo Seng (27 April 1909 – 29 June 1944) was a World War II anti-Japanese resistance fighter based in Singapore and Malaya.Family background and early life:Lim Bo Seng was born in 1909 to Lim Loh (林路; alias Lim Chee Gee), a well-known building constructor, as the 11th child but the first male child in the family. In 1917, Lim Bo Seng came to Singapore at the age of 16 to study in Raffles Institution under the British colonial government. He went on to read business at the University of Hong Kong.

In 1930, Lim Bo Seng married Gan Choo Neo, a Nyonya woman from the Lim Clan association hall of Singapore. They had eight children, one of whom died in infancy. Initially a Taoist, Lim converted to Christianity.

Lim Bo Seng Anti-Japanese activism:When the Second Sino-Japanese War broke out in 1937, Lim Bo Seng and many other overseas Chinese in Singapore participated in anti-Japanese activities, such as boycotting of Japanese goods and fund-raising to support their fellow countrymen in resisting the Japanese invaders in China.

Lim Bo Seng memorial history Singapore

Towards the end of 1937, hundreds of overseas Chinese working in Japanese-owned industries in Malaya went on strike. At that time, the Japanese government owned a tin mine in Dungun (龍運), Terengganu, Malaya, where nearly 3,000 Chinese labourers were employed. The tin was shipped to Japan and used as raw material to manufacture weapons. Lim Bo Seng felt that if the Chinese workers in the Dungun mine went on strike, the Japanese would suffer a huge loss, so he planned to make the workers go on strike. Around February 1938, Lim Bo Seng travelled to Dungun with Chuang Hui-chuan (莊惠泉) of the Singapore Anxi Association to carry out their plan. Chuang went to the mine to persuade the workers to go on strike while Lim Bo Seng contacted the local police and gained their support. By early March, Lim Bo Seng and Chuang achieved success as the workers left the mine and followed them to Singapore. On March 11, 1938, Lim Bo Seng and the Singapore Chinese community held a welcoming ceremony for the workers, who were later resettled and found employment in Singapore.

In December 1941, Lim Bo Seng was put in charge of organizing a group of volunteers to resist the Japanese, who were advancing towards Southeast Asia. The volunteers put up a fierce fight against the Japanese invaders during the Battle of Singapore in February 1942.

Lim Bo Seng Life in Force 136:On 11 February 1942, Lim Bo Seng left Singapore and travelled to Sumatra with other Chinese community leaders and made his way to India later. He recruited and trained hundreds of secret agents through intensive military intelligence missions from China and India. He set up the Sino-British guerrilla task force Force 136 in mid-1942 together with Captain John Davis of the Special Operations Executive (SOE).

Major-General Lim Bo Seng (b. 27 April 1909, Nan Ann, Fujian, China – d. 29 June 1944, Perak, Malaya) was a prominent Hokkien businessman who undertook active leadership in anti-Japanese activities during World War II and is recognised as a local war hero in Singapore.

Lim Bo SengEarly life:Lim was the 11th child but the first son of Lim Chee Gee (also known as Lim Loh). At the age of 16, he came to Singapore from China and studied at Raffles Institution. He discontinued his education at the University of Hong Kong in 1929 when, upon his father’s death, he inherited the senior Lim Bo Seng’s businesses which included biscuit and brick manufacturing. In 1930, he married Gan Choo Neo, a Straits-born Chinese, with whom he had seven children. Their’s was a love marriage, unusual in those days.

Lim Bo Seng Role during World War II:In the 1930s, Lim Bo Seng, under the alias Tan Choon Lim, participated in anti-Japanese activities in Singapore, particularly in supporting the China Relief Fund. Upon the request of Sir Shenton Thomas, then Governor, he also formed the Chinese Liaison Committee to assist in civil defence. With the fall of Kota Bahru in Malaya in 1942, Lim Bo Seng, as head of Labour Services of the Overseas Chinese Mobilization Council, and Tan Kah Kee organised more than 10,000 men for the British government to man essential services and to construct defences around the island. As Japanese troops descended upon Singapore, his men helped dynamite the Causeway.

Before Singapore fell to the Japanese, he escaped to India where he was joined by the British resistance group, Force 136, and was trained by the British for intelligence work. Force 136 was a special operations force formed by the British and Chinese governments in June 1942 to support resistance groups behind enemy lines and to coordinate guerilla operations in support of the eventual British invasion of Malaya. In 1943, Lim Bo Seng went to China to recruit men for Force 136. With a group of fellow Force 136 members, he landed in Japanese-occupied Malaya by submarine later that year and set up an intelligence network in the urban areas in Pangkor, Lumut, Tapah and Ipoh. The intelligence network – Operation Zipper – was aimed at recapturing Malaya with British support by 1945.

While on a mission in Ipoh on 27 March 1944, Lim Bo Seng was betrayed by the Malayan Communist Party leader Lai Teck, and was caught by the Japanese at a road checkpoint. He died in the Batu Gajah Jail, Perak, on 29 June 1944. Lim Bo Seng’s remains were disinterred from the jail in December 1945 and reburied in Singapore on 13 January 1946, on a hill overlooking the MacRitchie Reservoir. In February 1946, the Chinese Nationalist Government posthumously awarded him the rank of Major-General.

Lim Bo Seng Memorial (national monument):In 1946, the Lim Bo Seng Memorial Committee, which included representatives from the Chinese Nationalist Government, was established to raise funds for erecting a public memorial dedicated to him. The government rejected the committee’s proposal to build a memorial park around his grave, but granted permission for a memorial to be built at the Esplanade. The British Commissioner-General for Southeast Asia at the time, Malcolm MacDonald, laid the foundation stone on 3 November 1953, and the completed memorial was unveiled on 29 June 1954 by Sir Charles Loewen, then Commander-in-Chief of the Far East Land Forces.

Designed by Ng Keng Siang, the memorial occupies a 100ft-by-80ft (30m-by-24m) site donated by the government. The construction cost of $50,000 was funded by donations from the Chinese community. The memorial takes the form of a 3.6m-high octagonal pagoda made of bronze, concrete and marble. A bronze three-tiered roof caps the pagoda, while four bronze lions stand guard at the base. Four bronze plaques placed around the pagoda give an account of Lim Bo Seng’s life in English, Chinese, Tamil and Jawi (Malay). On 28 December 2010, the Lim Bo Seng Memorial was gazetted as a national monument.

13 Jan 1946 : The British brought Lim Bo Seng’s remains to Singapore and reburied him with full military honours at MacRitchie Reservoir.
29 Jun 1954 : Lim Bo Seng Memorial was officially unveiled at the Esplanade to remember his sacrifice.

LIM BO SENG – MY HERO, MY FRIEND:Mr Tan Chong Tee saw the Japanese torture famous war-time local hero Lim Bo Seng, to death. This was a most painful memory, as Mr Lim Bo Seng was not only Mr Tan’s leader, but also a friend. It was Mr Lim Bo Seng who recruited Mr Tan into Force 136 in Chungking. Before Mr Tan left for his mission in Malaya, Mr Lim Bo Seng even bought him an expensive art kit as a gift to show his appreciation for Mr Tan’s work.

Mr Lim was betrayed and captured, a day after Mr Tan himself was caught by the Japanese. From his cell in the basement of the Japanese counter-espionage headquarters, Mr Tan could hear Mr Lim Bo Seng being interrogated. Mr Tan could recognise Mr Lim’s voice saying, “Since I’m in your hands now, I have nothing to say. I’m prepared to die.”

Mr Tan recalled, “The Japanese tried to force Lim Bo Seng to cooperate with them but he refused. They even got his friends in Singapore to come over to persuade him, but he was not moved.”Instead he reminded the rest of us to remain firm and not to surrender to the Japanese.”

Mr Tan, Mr Lim Bo Seng and a few other anti-Japanese captives were later locked up in a prison. Mr Lim Bo Seng protested against the ill-treatment of prisoners-of-war by refusing food. He asked the warders to distribute his portion of sweet potatoes to the rest of his comrades.”Even when his life was hanging by a thread, Bo Seng still showed so much concern for his comrades. I was deeply touched by his noble character and kept pleading with him to eat. Bo Seng’s selflessness moved the warders, too.”

Mr Lim was later struck by dysentery, but he was refused medical treatment. A few days later, Mr Lim Bo Seng was bundled up in an old blanket and left without food or water in an empty room meant for dying prisoners.

For the next three nights, Mr Lim continued to struggle for his life. He finally died in the early morning of June 29, 1944.Mr Lim Bo Seng’s funeral.Mr Tan Chong Tee was the first person to inform Mr Lim’s wife that her husband had died. After the war, Mr Tan was the first person to inform Mrs Lim Bo Seng of her husband’s death. He also applied for compensation from the British and Chinese government on behalf of Mr Lim’s family.

Mr Tan still keeps in touch with Mr Lim’s family, including his son, Mr Lim Lian Yock. He will never forget Mr Lim’s loyalty and bravery.”I am very touched by what Mr Lim Bo Seng had done. He loved Singapore and Malaya with all his heart, and was even willing to lay down his life to win back his country. He is indeed a great man, a national hero.”

Baseball Hall of Famer Gary Carter has new tumors on his brain, his daughter announced Thursday on her website.”I write these words with tears because I am so sad for my dad,” Kimmy Carter Bloemers posted.Gary Carter was diagnosed with a brain tumor last year and has been undergoing treatment. He had an MRI exam last week that revealed more tumors, Bloemers wrote.

In her latest update on her blog, she recounted a difficult week for her father, including Gary Carter tearing his rotator cuff after falling in the hallway of the doctor’s office, and having surgery on an open gum wound.Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter’s battle with brain cancer just got more dire with news that the former New York Mets backstop has developed several new tumors on his brain.

Gary Carter retirement;Should Mets now retire Gary Carter's No. 8

Gary Carter, 57, was first diagnosed with brain tumors last spring, but in recent weeks his condition worsened considerably, as first reported by the New York Daily News.“(The doctor) told my mom that there are now several new spots/tumors on my dad’s brain,” Gary Carter’s daughter, Kimmy Bloemers, wrote on the family’s blog Thursday. “I write these words with tears because I am so sad for my dad.”

Gary Carter first complained of headaches and forgetfulness last May, leading to an initial MRI that revealed four small tumors on his brain. He underwent heavy chemotherapy and radiation treatments at Duke University, but the symptoms worsened this winter. After a Christmas Day fall left Gary Carter with a torn rotator cuff, he underwent another MRI, which revealed several more cancerous growths.

Last week, Gary Carter fell in his doctor’s office after receiving treatment for an open gum wound treated by an oral surgeon, according to a report from the New York Times.Retiring Gary Carter’s #8 shouldn’t be done because his health has taken a turn for the worst. I think it makes sense based on his impact to the organization.Back in June I wrote this piece, which outlined my thoughts on the importance of Gary Carter to those teams in the 80s.

Everyone knows the eighties Mets were built on strong pitching and the bats of Strawberry, Hernandez, and Gary Carter. That young staff wouldn’t have come along so quickly without to the veteran presence of Gary Carter. Statistically, you could argue that Carter only had two productive seasons in New York (’85-’86), but even after his body started to give out he remained an important member of that locker room. Everyone remembers his big hits in the 1986 postseason, but if the Mets win the World Series in 1988, his Game 1 single off Orel Hershiser in the NLCS would be right up there in terms of all- time clutch hits in team history. Even when he stopped hitting consistently, he still provided value behind the plate. Remember, a catcher gets up four times a game, but they put their fingers down 200 times. His ability to manage that pitching staff was sorely missed after his departure in 1989. The Mets would go through 14 catchers until acquiring Mike Piazza in 1998.

On Twitter, many Mets fans and even former teammates are tweeting words of encouragement for Gary Carter. Dwight Gooden, who pitched to Gary Carter when both were members of the Mets tweeted:Everyone please keep my teammate Gary Carter in your prayers… Amazin things can happen when we all believe!!

In addition to Gary Carter, I believe Dwight Gooden, Darryl Strawberry, Keith Hernandez, John Franco, and Mike Piazza should be considered. If you asked me how they should be prioritized, I believe Hernandez and Gary Carter are long overdue and should be retired together. Piazza deserves a celebration all his own; perhaps coinciding with his induction into the Hall of Fame.I will talk about this a bit more on Sunday’s radio program. But first, let’s see what the fans think.

As time expired Thursday night and Kevin Durant held his fist skyward, it immediately became apparent that the 23-year-old is no longer a commodity or a sideshow in the National Basketball Association. He’s the main attraction.Dec 30, 2011 – With just under 10 seconds left in Thursday night’s Western Conference Finals rematch, Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder appeared to have stolen a win from the Dallas Mavericks.

But following a pair of botched free throws by OKC forward Serge Ibaka, the momentum seemed to swing in favor of the Mavs. The defending champs were getting the ball back, down just two points and NBA Finals MVP Dirk Nowitzki was straight money from just about anywhere on the floor. It seemed like a done deal.As I sat up, my mind didn’t even register that arguably the NBA’s best player, Kevin Durant, stood in the other team’s huddle methodically plotting his kill shot – the 27 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists just not enough to satisfy the kid.

Kevin Durant game winner vs Dallas Mavericks

Out of the timeout, it was No. 35′s time to shine. Kevin Durant walked to his place off the corner of the arc, eyes focused, mouth closed, nostrils’ flared — it was almost as if Carter’s bucket had awoken the beast within.Thabo Sefolosha looking low as the play develops and an almost enraged KD whips around the screen at the right of the arc, spinning off a defender for the quick catch and shoot from almost 27-feet. The shot seemed reminiscent of plays in Kevin Durant’s past, where the talented youngster would pull up from nearly anywhere on the court and launch an ill advised shot in a desperate attempt for a win.

On this night, it was different though. As Kevin Durant’s sneakers sprung from the hardwood, leaping high above three Mavs defenders left standing in front, the 23-year-old no longer had the look of a careless kid heaving a hopeless brick. He was now a crafty veteran with a nose for the net and a killer instinct spawning inside. From the moment it left his hand, it seemed almost inevitable. The sweet sailing ball glided through the air with no sense of urgency, quietly floating to the basket as if it were anyone of Kevin Durant’s other 15 shots on the night.Yet, as time expired and Kevin Durant held his fist skyward, his Thunder teammates flocking like animals to Noah’s Ark, it immediately became apparent that the 23-year-old is no longer a commodity or a sideshow. He’s the main attraction.

Video Kevin Durant game winner vs Dallas Mavericks

In his first three seasons, Kevin Durant was widely viewed as just a fascinating lure to NBA fans. He was young, athletic and entertaining. He could score 50 on any given night, flash an amazing dunk for the highlight reel and during his days off, when not locked in the gym, he’d be playing Xbox or filling in on a local flag football team.
